A large majority of people living in England – 79 per cent – think Scottish MPs should be barred from voting on England-only matters in the House of Commons, a poll has found. The English are finding their voice. Some 79% said MPs representing Scottish constituencies should not have a parliamentary vote on issues that only concern England, the YouGov survey for the IPPR think-tank found. Of those, 53% said they were "strongly" of that opinion. The poll was published by the IPPR ahead of the launch this week of the Government's commission on the so-called West Lothian Question which has arisen with devolution.

The Scots want to be separate from the UK, leave them to their own devices! They shouldn't have an opinion on what WE English do!
Salmond - on dangerous turf?
Alex Salmond really needs to be careful with his wishlist, particularly where Scottish independence is concerned.
No doubt he is rubbing his hands at the thought of all the oil revenue he'll inherit if Scotland goes it alone; however I doubt he's realised (as yet) that a Scottish sovereign parliament would have to renegotiate individual deals with BP and Conoco, amongst others, and the terms of any such dealings would not be at all advantageous for the Scots. Indeed, it would be a moot point in law if a new Scottish legislature would have any powers whatever as regards mineral extraction rights, never mind calling the tune as he so obviously expects to do. An English Parliament is the Only way ahead.
Let me state at the outset, I'm a Brit! I have an Anglo Scottish heritage, served in the Britsh Army for over 35 years and have been stationed in welcoming, warm and proud communities in every home nation, each for a number of years. We would I feel be doing ourselves a grave disservice to allow the Union to break up.
That said, Pandora is out of the box and will not, cannot be put back in. This being the case, the continuing inequitable farce that is both the Barnet formula and the Lothian question must not be allowed to continue unchallenged. The Palace of Westminster is currently embarked on scrutinising these issues. I would call into doubt the efficacy of such an enquiry as in my mind the outcome is certain to be self serving. I believe changes will be in sum, the rewording, reorganising and finally sugar coating of an outcome which will be carefully crafted to give the appearance of change whilst effectively changing nothing. An exercise in stroking an English electorate into quiescence. The British Parliamentary System and those involved in it have, time and again, demonstrated that they have absolutely no intention in looking after purely English interests. I have some sympathy with the argument that currently, MP's from English constituencies have no mandate to speak for the English people as they belong to British political parties. Leaders of the main parties have indicated that it is their firm belief that there is no need for an English Parliament, whilst they continue to allow MP's from non-English constituencies to voter on English only matters. At times these non-English votes have been critical to the outcome of some infamous votes (University fees, prescription charges to name two). Now I for one, whilst recognising the unfairness of the English being the only country to be forced to pay prescription charges and the like, understand that financial pressures leave little room for manoeuvre in this regard. That though is not the point. The point is, that the English are being treated unfairly. That British Political parties continue to demonstrate that they have no interest in rectifying these matters. That they have, are and will continue to act in this manner until forced to do otherwise. A salutary point made elsewhere here is pivotal in my argument. That EVoEM is merely procedural slight of hand which is in the gift of the sitting Government. The is, as far as I know, no force in law to compel any Government to ensure that EVoEM is used in every case that merits it, should it not suit them. All the above being the case, then the only way ahead which the English can put their trust in, is an English Parliament, run by English MP's (and I don't care what their colour, race or creed is, as long as they be English men or women, naturalised or otherwise). ‘NO’ to Scots MPs Voting on English Matters

The reason for this advice is because if pushed the Unionist parties would reluctantly grant us English Votes on English Matters (EVoEM)in the knowledge that this would only be a point of procedure and not backed by legislation. This means that foreign votes could be re-introduced to suit a party's needs also as a matter of procedure.
The only way to prevent the Unionists playing fast and loose with our democratic rights is to keep fighting until our Parliament for England is established and enshrined in law. EVoEM is only ever going to be a stop gap measure.
