Support Jon Gaunt's EU Referendum

The English Democrats have pledged to support the EU referendum campaign currently being organised by celebrity journalist and commentator Jon Gaunt reports Leeds Chairman Chris Beverley.

As our party chairman Robin Tilbrook reported on his blog here, Jon contacted Robin recently to outline his plan to run local referendums in the constituencies of the leaders of the Lib-Lab-Con parties and ask if the English Democrats would be interested in helping, particularly in Doncaster North, the constituency of Labour leader Ed Milliband.

After speaking to our hardworking and highly popular English Democrat Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davis, Robin confirmed that our party is certainly keen to support this campaign however we can. The other two will be held in Sheffield Hallam and in Witney, the constituencies of Nick Clegg and David Cameron respectively.

In his press release regarding this campaign, which is entitled; 'Now Is The Time – Cameron Should Let The People Decide' and can be read in full here, Jon Gaunt said: "We congratulate David Cameron but he hasn't gone far enough. He has left us even more isolated and more vulnerable than before. Britain is a strong nation and can survive without being held back by other EU countries – now is the time to trust the British public and put the question to them via a referendum."

He went on to add: "When the British people realise that they have even less say on how their £51 million a day is being spent in the EU, they will quite rightly demand their money back. When this country is in a deep recession, how can we justify spending this outrageous amount of money? It has to stop. What is David Cameron frightened of? Our referendum next May will put even more pressure on him to do the right thing and offer the opportunity to the rest of the UK".

Support for a EU referendum

Jon, I've always admired your columns & TV appearances when I've been lucky enough to read/watch them & I'd like to fully support your call for a referendum on EU membership, enough is enough. Personally I do not have a problem with the EU parliament but DO NOT get me started on the Commission...an unelected body of misfits the World has never seen the like of!
