Successful Day of Action in Barnsley

On Saturday 5th November, the English Democrats held their first stall in Barnsley with the aim of highlighting our presence in the town, and to launch their 'elect a mayor' campaign for an elected executive in Barnsley.

Having achieved some success as a candidate in local elections and the Barnsley Central parliamentary by-election, Kevin Riddiough gathered local activists together to kick start this important campaign. Leaflets were handed out and signatures were collected for the 'elect a mayor' campaign.

There was a very positive response from the public. Numerous enquiries were made about the English Democrats and our political stance and two new party members were signed up to the Barnsley branch.

Barnsley has had little by the way of a serious choice with regard to candidates or political parties, with the Labour Party having had a stranglehold on the town for many years.

The residents of Barnsley now finally have a serious alternative to the same old parties and politics of old. They now have the choice of voting for the English Democrats, a party that will work for our community at local level, not narrow party interests.

Local activists are invited to come along and join Barnsley Branch of the English Democrats on future stalls in the town centre to show support and hand out leaflets to help highlight the work of the branch.

Enquiries are welcomed and anyone wanting more information can contact Kevin Riddiough on 07871 491 444.
