Campaign for St George's Day to be a National Holiday:

alt

The Scots celebrate St Andrew's day, the Welsh celebrate St David's day and the Irish celebrate St Patrick's day. The people of Ireland, Scotland and Wales are all allowed to show their pride for their patron saints day. The English should be no different!

campaignep

The English Democrats would make St George's day a public holiday and ensure that local events took place all
over the country so our Patron Saint's Day was celebrated just as everyone else's Patron Saints' Days are. You can add your signature to our petition for an English Parliament by filling out the online form to the right

You can also download one of our petition forms and collect your signatures from your friends and neighbours and post the back to us. Click here to see the form, or click the button below.

St Patricks day is a massive celebration both in Ireland and in England. I am English and I live in England. I am proud of being English and believe we should be able to celebrate our pride in our National heritage the same as the Irish are able to do. We are being discriminated against in our own country and it is WRONG!

I am English and proud of it when I fill in forms and it asks for nationality with a list that does not include English I tick other and write in ENGLISH may I suggest that you all do this as someone may notice.
I and many of my friends and family want to be able to celebrate ST Georges Day. This would mean that even if we are usually required to work bank holidays us English would not be obliged to work on that day. That would be a real change a special priviledge for an English person in our own country.

England is my home and l love it ,l love the beauty of it , our local dialects, foods, morris dancers, church bells on sunday morning, sunday roasts, beach huts, oyster fishermen, just everything that makes our country what it is l have traced my family tree back over 600 years and we have been sailors ,farmers, policemen, nurses, thatchers, rat catchers, soldiers, pub landlords, and many other things , l am so proud of our country and the strong hard working people that have helped shape and protect it why should we have to allow others to push aside our beliefs our pride and our heritage if they don`t like whats here then maybe its time for them to leave , we have a lot to celebrate so lets stand up and celebrate who and what we are.ENGLISH AND PROUD OF IT.

Tell the government elite
Whose office they inflate
That they’re purpose is ambition
And their ethics second rate
And if they should reply
Then give them all a lie.

Tell the zealots of correctness
Who invented double speak
That equality is useless
And correctness a mistake
And if they should deny
Then give them all a lie.

Say to all our politicians
Of every party and opinion
The English are for turning
And acting for their own
For England is the English
By St George it is our home!

I really enjoyed reading some of the comments and agree 100%+more. Our English government have to wake up and realize we are English and need to be recognized, to long have we been put on the back burner and classed as second class citizens in our own country. This has to stop now. Can you imagine if we emigrated to a foreign country naming none and then asked to buid a huge medieval cathedral, it just wouldnt happen now would it.

So now it's time for us to stop giving and start taking back our heritage and country in a nice way.

I have no problem with anybody celebrating their nationality in England. The problem I do have is that we are not as English citizens allowed to celebrate our nationality in England, in case we upset other British citizens. It is wrong and our English parliament should recognise that.

Why should we be the only country in the world,NOT TO HAVE A NATIONAL DAY...? !!!!! It's time,we the people stood up to this Racist view of us English, and DEMAND,to have a Nation Ebglish Day ! It doesn't have to be St Georges Day,as so many of us are not Christians, and don't like the idea of celebrating a foreign St ! But to be able to have an English Day,would unite people of all colours and creed,as they too can enjoy the day,and also the fact it would increase Patriotism within our Nation again ! The Ebglish ,have been down trodden long enough, and we demand to have OUR DAY,just like every other country in the world !

for the past seven years we as a company have always had 23 April as a day away from work. The only stipulation is that on that day the answer machine states that as an English company we do not work on this day and please leave a message. As a sales company we need the customers coming to us and thought we may have lost out if it upset any so far we have only had positive comments. so you can do it as individuals as well as at a national level Which I strongly believe we should, good luck, good fortune and for St George and the Queen.

St Georges day holiday

We have too few public holidays in the UK and a few more will not make much difference. We have so little industry left now. But we do need more public holidays in autumn.
As for the comment by 'Celibrate' who states 'good fortune and for St George and the Queen'.
A short pithy response to that remark is "**** the monarchy". They sold their souls to the devil long ago"
We do not need their services.

Why have we never had a bank holiday for England? Surely it should have been obvious to have this the same as Wales, Scotland & Ireland?

We have so quickly become the victims but the government do not see...We get told we are racist but all we want is to have our country and be acknowledged for the true English men and women we are. I do not consider myself to be racist and have friends of other cultures. It is good to help when there is so much violence and war but should you not be helping your own first? We really have been forgotten. Our children have a bleak future and so will there children. Please listen and change your views. Life and living for the UK and English people is so poor and depressing right now. How much more can we have taken from us. Jobs, houses, NHS, Income support etc, all given to others at the expense of our own people. Which makes it is hard to see others still coming in to the UK when we are one of the smallest countries and let the most in.

If we want to emigrated we have very ridged rules to overcome and we have to show what we can give to the chosen country before they even consider taking you in. We need to close the flood gates and look to our own people for a while. please help is needed closer to home before we can think of helping others, you have no right to put this on us when it is clearly not our choice. I hope this is not too harsh but then they say the truth hutrs.

What's happened to our country?? The unity & sense of community is a by-gone thing these days, kids aren't even made to sing the National Anthem each morning at class assembly as we did!! Kids are only told what the media & the PC brigade tell them, there's no national identity anymore as it may offend different cultures & nationalities, but why is it our councils & other governmental agencies allow this to happen,we are now 3rd class citizens in our own country (you fill an application form & your never asked-English White). When other non-English fly their countries flags it's ok to show their national identity, but try getting the councils to fly the St.George Cross on town-halls & the like & it doesn't happen!!! Come on people of England let's all rise up against the PC brigade & fly, show & display our patron saints flag & the fact We Are Proud To Be English, please take the shackles off us & let us display & celebrate our patriotism!!!! Long live St.George!!! And remember those who have died for this great country and those who serve this great country also, so Help Our Heroes & Make St.Georges Day a bank holiday!!!!

I am British/Irish and served in the British and was proud to have served and have setteled in England and am proud of it.I truley believe that Britain should celebrate St Georges day on 23 of April every year and be proud to fly the St Georges Flag from the roof tops and not be classed as third rate citizens in our own country as so many of our British Military Heroes Died in WW11 so Britain could be free and safe for us so the least we can do is to fight to have St Georges Day and I for one am behind the cause.

Sadly, the poloticians have been making a mess of stuff like this for decades. I live in Warrington. Warrington is a border county town in the North West of England. It borders Lancashire and Cheshire with the traditional boundary being the river Mersey. I was born in the larger Lancashire side of town and have been a proud Lancastrian all my life. The Gov't in the early 70's decided to throw the whole town administritively into Cheshire. Ever since the town has wrongly been referred to as Warrington, Cheshire. trouble is the English are known for sitting back and taking such things without so much as a whimper. The Gov'ts have made a mess of immigration, destroyed the country's industry and made us pay some of the highest taxes on earth. If we dare to be patriotic we are branded racists. Stand up for what is right people. Making St Georges day a bank holiday is a start.

Yes celebrate St Georges Day, Yes celebrate our great land, Lets celebrate the English way, And all in England make our stand. ADB

What in fact is racism?, Its just another euphemism, This is the point I've clearly missed, Cus Im English, Why am I racist? And as we are part of the human race, Here's a view my detractors should face, If I'm a proud member of the human race, Am I a racist against others from space?

WHEN WILL THESE PERNICIOUS WORDS & TERMS WITH NO CLEAR MEANING BUT VERY CLEAR SINISTER MOTIVES STOP? I do not feel guilty because I've commited no crime. Being English is an honour & privelege but its also a duty & responsibility as well. All those that matter will understand and all those that do not understand, do not matter.

Yes to the glorious 23rd being made a national holiday. I dont give two hoots about fathers day, mothers day, valentines day, red nose day, st patricks day, or any other boring humdrum day. All i want is to be able to celebrate my nation, my culture and my patron saint without being labelled a racist or a xenophobe and be ridiculed for it. The English flag ie Cross of Saint George does not belong to extremists or football hooligans. It is the rightful possesion of all English folk and represenative of flag of our nation. Those who wish to deny our rights and besmirch our flag are the real racists and bigots. The White Angel as I have affectionately called her has a white background for the purity and sanctity of our land and a red cross for the blood of christ and of those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending her shores. Move aside Britannia cos Queen Anglia wants your throne and crown. Anglia regina Anglicae

In April we alreadt may have Good Friday and Easter Monday and a few weeks later May Bank holiday. St Georhes day should be moved to a time when they isn't too many Holidays together, IE after August Bank holiday the next Holiday is Christmas 4 months away.
Im sure the political parties come up with another date which will reflect on the dispuration of Bank Holidays, so we can celebrate it properly without causing disruption to the econimic system.

Why have just St George and not more saints days just like in Europe
0
St George is the patron saint of England and of Greece, being he was a Byzantine Greek. So My Greek and English blood has a common saint.

No foreigner, believe me, is denying you your English national day.

The big parties fear English nationalism, because if you ever really appeared in the national newspapers, you speak as the public say all about you. The English flag is everywhere, including Asian food shops.

But why stop at having St George on April 23?
What about English saints - November 20th is Saint Edmund's Day
That would be great for Christmas shopping!

We all moan about St Georges Day ,The easy answer is get off your backsides and do something about it as Robin Knows we (Stone Cross St George from West Bromwich )Did just that we had a handfull of people get together one St Georges Day 14 years ago and Marched to a Spot in West Bromwich ,Keeping to the pathes etc next year there were a 100 off us ,This Year 25,000 of us with a huge fete at the End it can be done but its bloody hard work and it costs in time and Money we have to raise £12,000 to fund the parade with Road closures/Marshells/Insurance etc etc If your thinking of doing it get in touch we will guide you in the right direction stgeorgeparade@aol.com
Oh and i forgot to say we have a Labour Council who try to stop us but if theres a nough of you and you dig your heels in theres not a lot thay can do about it and your all welcome to come to ours next year 22nd April Nearest Sunday

St George's Day

I have been to nearly all of the St George's Day in West Bromwich. Every year the council comes with anti-English sentiments as though the English will go around beating minorities up or burning minority flags - what cobblers! It has give the English community something to belong to, made the kids feel great and more confident about themselves and has helped forge better relationships, raised money for charity - its benefitted everyone and not one single incident of violence. They are doing what ever other group is doing no more no less, shame on the BBC and the council etc for the nonsense they come out with.

I am proud to be ENGLISH, I am not British, I am ENGLISH. Why do we not fly the St Georges Cross flag from buildings like the USA do, they are proud to be American, yet if you say you are ENGLISH then you are classed as being a racist. I DEMAND that St Georges Day become a National Holiday. Why should I be victamised because I am ENGLISH. Its time we stood up againts these do gooders and put them straight. For gods sake its about time we stood up for our rights and showed all that we are proud to be ENGLISH and there is nothing wrong with that. It is NOT a dirty word, yet you mention it and you are doomed.

I'm not sure about this. One of the distinguishing features of English culture is that we don't mention we're English every other sentence. How tiresome are the tribes of: I'm from Scotland by the way. Did I mention I'm Scottish? Well being from Scotland I think.... Being Scottish I .... (substitute Irish, Welsh etc etc ad naus.) Don't let's go down that route!

Fly the Flag

Do something, but be positive. Persuade any business near you which presently flies the Union flag to change to the flag of St George, but not just for St George's Day, - permanently - they probably haven't thought about it for ages, and they may be confused about whether they should. The Scots and Welsh do it, we should too. Try your local council. If you have clout and influence, make the most of it. Get local groups together if you can. Keep pressing, challenge evasion. Cherish your Nation.
