Migration Watch UK, the independent non political body concerned about the present scale of immigration into Britain, have launched a petition with the aim to force a debate in the House of Commons about immigration.

100,000 signatures are required for an e-petition to be sent to a Back Bench Committee to be considered for a debate in Parliament. This was how the European Union Referendum debate came about last week.

This is the press release Migration Watch UK sent out yesterday to announce their petition:

Migration Watch UK have today launched an e-petition calling on the government to stabilise the population of the UK and, certainly, to keep it well below 70 million.

The new official population projections issued last week show our population hitting 70 million in 16 years. This is on the assumption that net immigration will continue at 200,000 a year compared to almost 240,000 last year. The UK population was last estimated in 2010 at 62.3 million.

This population increase of more than 7 million is the equivalent of building seven cities the size of Birmingham or fourteen the size of Manchester or Bristol and about two thirds of it (just over 5 million) will be due to future immigration. Immigration will have to be sharply reduced to about 40,000 a year to stabilise our population.

Commenting, Sir Andrew Green, Chairman of Migration Watch UK, said 'Labour permitted foreign immigration of over three million in the face of strongly opposed public opinion. Politicians need reminding that this is an issue that is consistently one of the top concerns of voters and that it must be addressed, and soon. It is time to stop listening to those who support and, often, make money from the immigration 'industry' and consider the views of the people most directly affected. This, at last, is an opportunity for the man in the street to make his views heard where it counts.'

To sign the petition click on this link:

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/19658

The actual petition is worded as follows:

Over the past ten years the government has permitted mass immigration despite very strong public opposition reflected in numerous opinion polls. We express our deep concern that, according to official figures, the population of the UK is expected to reach 70 million within 20 years with two thirds of the increase due to immigration. While we recognise the benefits that properly controlled immigration could bring to our economy and society, this population increase, which is the equivalent of building seven cities the size of Birmingham, will have a huge impact both on our quality of life and on our public services yet the public has never been consulted. So we call on the government to take all necessary steps to get immigration down to a level that will stabilise our population as close to the present level as possible and, certainly, well below 70 million.

We urge all our members and supporters to sign this important petition in an effort to make the government sit up and listen to public opinion on this important issue!

This immigration issue needs speedy action to control immigration and all the stupid senseless laws that goes with it.We've just seen yet another case were a failed asylum seeker, whose commited many crimes in this country awarded £17,000 compensation.Either the judge is stupid or the laws are. This needs to be changed and changed quick.

The immigration issue needs to be sorted and sorted fast.Again we see unbeleivable things happening, the latest being a failed asylum seeker who as commited many crimes in this country awarded £17,000 compensation. This is madness, and sends the wrong signals to law abiding citizens. Either the judge or the laws are stupid.Whatever the system needs a radical overhaul.

Enough is enough. All our infastructures are at breaking point. No homes available for those born here, no decent schooling because our classrooms are filling up with children who don't speak English. No jobs for the British because foreigners undercut wages. Our culture is held in contempt by those who flock here for economic reasons. Our immigration control is non existent. Government officials have let this situation spiral out of control for long enough. We want action NOW. No more empty promises. You have dodged this debate long enough. Government officials hold the electorate in contempt. They are nothing more than smug elitists who don't give a fig for true democracy. British citizens have a right to decided how many foreingners enter the country. Unless action is taken to reverse the situation, the future forBritain is grim.

This island we live on will not grow with the influx of imigrants, meanwhile the job situation just gets worse with school leavers not being able to get a job,the older generation having to work longer there is not enough jobs to go round. so lets look what can be do no 1 stop imagrants coming in and end up giving them free housing etc.no 2 give more apprentice couses to give school leavers a chance so the older people can retire earlier that means not as many people on the dole claiming everything from housing, food ,clothing, gas electric, etc.here's a question, does it cost more to pay a pensioner who has work all their lives or to pay a imigrant who claims incapacity benifit young person who is trying to get a job, I could go on and on I think iv'e made my point clear seems simple to me what about the rest of the country what do you think.

I think the way these departments are running their duties is disgusting and they should be sacked without pensions for neglect of duty and incurring more expense to the taxpayer. If half these departments were classed as business firms --- They would be bankrupt

IMMIGRATION OVERLOAD

Mr Green has made me feel ashamed of myself, he is a man who keeps trying day after day week after week to stop this madness of over immigration forced on the united kingdom.
I on the other hand just stand and watch the major changes that in my opinion, are more important than climate change in the short term. This petition has given me the hope that we can make contact with the so called leaders of our great land, but we all must then keep the pressure on them or it will be to late.

I think it is about time migration was debated in the house of commons, and the people of this country were given a vote on this matter.this should not, just left to the political elite to make this decision, after all this supposed to be a democracy and it affects all people in the UK.

Our beautiful island is being overcrowded by uncontrolled immigration. Clearly the politicians have an ulterior motive for this and they are all scared to death of consulting their constituants in this regard. We cannot hope to feed and service the number of people that is being projected to be here withon the next ten years. Clearly genuine assylum seekers must be accomodated but the majority of people coming here are not in reality genuine assylun seekers. Everyone MUST contact their MP AND JUST MAYBE with sufficiant pressure, for once they might do as the majority of population want to see done, and that includes many long tern immigrants to this country.

smilies/angry.gifsmilies/cry.gifsick and tired and very angry that money brits have paid in taxes over many years to pay for retirement and find it is being spent on immigrants !! WE ARE SUPPORTING THEM TO HAVE BABIES ON OUR BENEFITS WHILE OUR OWN CHILDREN FOLLOWING THE SAME TAX SYSTEM CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE BRIT BABIES . worse we are providing our benefits to bombers and there family instead of shooting them as treacherous scum ..

No one asked me if I wanted to live in a multicultural Britain. The labour government were a disgrace in allowing mass immigration. I have no objection to immigrants who have jobs who pay taxes and are prepared to fit into society but because of our inefectual border control we are being swamped by undesirable work shy foreigners who seem to have more rights than the indiginous population. In fact we have become second class citizens in our own country. Anyone who has come into the country illegally should be deported immediately and not allowed to appeal to the Court of Human Rights. Why should they be given houses and benefits. smilies/angry.gif
