Management consultants were paid to conduct a review of Staffordshire Police. Consultants ordered officers to make fewer arrests, deal with more crimes over the phone and not respond to as many incidents. The remarkable advice consultants KPMG handed out to senior officers at Staffordshire Police cost the taxpayer £480,000 and took 18 weeks to complete. The new policy means 'low-level' anti-social behaviour and neighbour disputes will be handled by untrained council workers instead of police. In addition more offenders will be given penalty notices rather than being arrested, in the new plans unveiled yesterday. KPMG were brought in to help Staffordshire Police cope with budget cuts of £38 million and the loss of 300 officers and civilian staff since April 2010. The English Democrats' manifesto states: Policing is an increasingly difficult job due to changes in our society, which now lacks the social cohesion and shared values that once gave us a mostly peaceful and well-ordered way of life. Our cities have become places where it is impossible to perform traditional communal policing. The job of police has become even more difficult thanks to Conservative and Lib Dem cuts which have slashed funding for vital frontline services including policing. However the government can still find over ten billion pounds to throw at foreign aid projects. It is essential that the police force be adequately trained and resourced. As such we believe that cuts in frontline policing and services that affect local communities are not acceptable. When frontline police services are cut you see scenes such as the ones witnessed in the riots earlier this year where a anorexic police presence was unable to deal with serious social disorder. Police cuts place communities, homes, families and businesses at risk and allow greater freedoms for those who wish to prey upon the law abiding majority. It is essential that the police force be adequately trained and resourced. The English Democrats believe in putting England first – and that means making sure that taxpayers' money is spent on the things that matter – frontline services. We believe that any cuts that do need to take place should be in red tape, not in officers on the beat.

I could have done it for free.
it makes me seethe when I hear the police crying poverty saying they will have to lay off front line police. Then as I drive from job to job see them driving about in range rovers (£50K) and top of the range BMWs and volvos.
I understand the traffic cops need high performance cars but cannot understand why all this money is spent on top range cars for everyone.
Mind you they are unable to leave there cars so they need to be comfortable
