NO to a ‘United States of Europe’

This week David Cameron has said Britain must let Eurozone countries move towards a United States of Europe. The English Democrats are completely opposed to the idea of further EU integration.

David Cameron himself has even admitted he was not sure whether Germany and other countries had the political will to prevent a break-up of the single currency. Yet he still insisted that the only way to solve the current financial crisis was more integration.

European integration is what has got Eurozone countries into the crisis they are in, but David Cameron clearly believes the only solution is more of the same bad medicine. David Cameron is not alone in this twisted logic. George Osborne has also urged governments in the single currency nations to follow the 'remorseless logic' of further financial fusion.

It seems however that this 'remorseless logic' isn't being followed by all countries that have entered the Eurozone. Germany for one is clearly having a certain degree of remorse over its recent bailout of Greece, Portugal and Ireland.

German politicians and economists have recently tried to challenge their government's participation in the bailout through a constitutional court hearing, claiming that the bailout and use of German funds was illegal under German law because it wasn't voted on in parliament beforehand.

As is the case with many decisions made in the Eurozone, members 'states' already have very little power to challenge EU rulings leaving politicians questioning how democratic the European Union really is. It seems the EU has very little respect for sovereignty or national autonomy.

The English Democrats' manifesto states: "The states of the EU cannot be successfully run as either an economic or social whole. Their economic and cultural circumstances are very different. Each needs to be governed in a way which accords not only with material needs but also with the democratic, cultural and other traditions of the indigenous nations. The one-size-fits-all approach of EU institutions is a recipe for disaster."

This statement has been proved correct time and again – most notably with the economic collapse of the Eurozone which has seen the larger and more prosperous economies being forced to bail out the smaller economies which have not been able to keep with the 'one-size-fits all' approach to economics taken within the Eurozone.

The English Democrats are not anti-European, we favour European co-operation and trade but not a European political entity which undermines the independence, sovereignty, and democratic institutions of European states. As such we pledge to remove England from the European Union in order to restore our sovereignty.

We reject David Cameron's 'logic' that the only way to fix what has gone wrong is to insist on more of the same bad medicine that created the problem in the first place. The only solution for the Eurozone countries is for them to withdraw from the Eurozone before the damage gets any worse.

Cameron is just as ready to sell us out as Blair and Brown were. The Tories and the Labour Party both fall overthemselves to appease the Eurocrats.

EngDems have an excellent positive alternative to the EU, which is EFTA = European Free Trade Association.
Since EFTA countries run a lot more of their country, free from EU, this gives EngDems opportunities to approach industries which would support them, for example fishing and agriculture. EngDems could approach these groups and offer to do EFTA presentations. Norway, an EFTA member, does not have an EU policy of throwing fish back in the sea.
EFTA presentations could also lead to more EngDems members, more donations, higher opinion poll ratings and votes.
Well done EngDems smilies/smiley.gif
