Following the Eurozone crisis and the massive bailouts taxpayers have had to endure to save stricken Eurozone economies, the English Democrats call for a referendum on England's continued membership of the EU. Today William Hague has said that holding a referendum on pulling out of the European Union could damage the economy further at a time of crisis. The Tories, however, are facing internal rebellion over the issue. Many conservatives feel that now is the time to hold a referendum on the issue and give voters the chance to voice their opinion on this vital subject. Whereas William Hague believes that a referendum could damage our economy, it is far more likely that much greater economic damage will be caused by our country's continued membership of the EU, with the high likelihood that this will entail our participation in further costly bailouts of stricken Eurozone economies. The Euro appears to be sinking rather rapidly. The downward spiral has the potential to drag down not only other Eurozone economies, but also countries tied into the EU which are liable for bailouts under EU regulations. The English Democrats believe that a referendum is the only way to allow the English to speak their minds on this crucial issue. The English Democrats favour the use of referenda in government as it is the most practical way to extend democracy to the people. Our manifesto states: We favour the use of referenda in local government with a view to using referenda in other tiers of government if the experiment proves successful. A system similar to that used in Switzerland should be the model. This would enable citizens to petition for a referendum on certain policy issues. Proposed changes to the constitution should be referred to the electorate in referenda. The results should be binding. There could be a role here for the Second Chamber as guardian of the constitution. We are committed to government of the people, by the people, for the people. Those with power to affect our way of life must be answerable to the people. Democracy is much more than the ability to choose, from time to time, between broadly similar parties which compete amongst themselves for power. Real democracy is measured by the ability of the people to manage their political, economic, physical, and cultural environment. You can read our full manifesto by clicking here.

Of course the 'powers that be' who spend English people's money and expend English people's lives forcing 'democracy' on the Middle East do not welcome real democracy here in England. They do not believe that English people should be allowed a real voice in decisions which effect us and believe that they know better what is good for us. They sneer at referendums and use the word 'populist' as an insult.
