Fairness for English Students!

Help us campaign for fairness for English students! We think it's unfair that English students who study in Scotland are forced to pay up to £9,000 a year in tuition fees whilst Scottish students study for free.

As the Scottish newspaper The Daily Record put it on Sunday:-

THE SNP government face a legal challenge to their plans to charge £9000 tuition fees for students from England who study in Scotland.

A leading human rights lawyer is planning to take the Holyrood government to court over their fees proposal.

Scottish students studying at universities here do not pay the fees but an estimated 22,000 English students do have to stump up for tuition.

These charges could increase to £9000 a year, after fees limits were increased in England.

Scottish education secretary Mike Russell said he needed to act to prevent a flood of applications from "fee refugees" facing high tuition fees in England.

But he has been accused of double standards and deliberately stirring resentment by targeting English students.

Now human rights lawyer Phil Shiner says the Scottish policy breaches the European Convention on Human Rights by discriminating against English students.

Shiner, of Public Interest Lawyers, has already been granted a judicial review to challenge the increase in tuition fees in England.

He believes ministers in Scotland have "misinterpreted the law" and, by discriminating against students from England, are in breach of the UK's Equality Act.

The English Democrats are the only party campaigning to stop anti-English Discrimination where ever it rears its ugly head. The issue of English students being forced to pay tuiton fees simply because they are English is one of the most blatent acts of anti-English Discrimination to date.

The best way to ensure that things like this do not happen is by helping the English Democrats to campaign for real devolved power for England. By ensuring England has its own Parliament and own elected representatives, England would have its own voice to ensure English matters were dealt with properly and that our interests were put first.

This kind of thing must stop now! I'm sick of seeing England being the poor relation in the British Isles. If any other nationality of people were being discriminated against like this it would cause outrage - the whole political establishment would be up in arms! It seems like the English really are second clas citizens.

smilies/cool.gif We all need to be aware of the "big Picture" this is without doubt an EU inspired project to set the countries of the UK fighting amongst each other! The conquer & divide policy. Blair started this with his Devolution policy, supposedly to allow each country within the Union to manage their own affairs-yeh! We now have a Scottish Parliament, a Welsh Assembly, and N Ireland are allowed to look after it's own affairs. But no English Parliament. If you can't see that this has all been done to upset & downgrade the English, you need to get out more! Our pro EU lackey's at Westminster have a lot to answer for. If we continue to have this break up of the Union, we are all going to be enslaved by the EUSSR!

What are English MP's For?

The unfairness of the Scottish Government charging only English students tuition fees is self evident. Thankfully it is to be challenged in law. The question is, what are English MP's doing about it? The silence is deafening and is indicative of our impotent elected representatives. If the situation was reversed the uproar from Scottish MSP's would, by comparison, put English MP's to shame. Scottish, Welsh and N. Irish elected representatives do just that, represent their peoples. Put bluntly, English MP's do not. Their allegiance is to the UK Parliament and Europe. This has left a vaccum where 58 million people are inadequately represented. Hence creeping unfairness regarding lots of issues. The Celtic nations have legitimate representation, the English do not and it shows. It's ironic that whilst English men and women in our armed services are fighting and dying in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and recently Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Kosovo to establish democratic and fair representation, they themselves do not have it at home in England. I have come to the obvious conclusion that the only body that could fairly and effectively represent English rights is an English Parliament.

Gerald, why would the Scots government subsidise non resident studentsunless they had to? EU students get free because of the rules negociated by the UK govermlnment. Foreign students pay up. For accuracy, Scots donot get free tuition - RESIDENTS in Scotland get free tuition.

You are right tocomplain about your MPs but they arewho you voted for. Be carefully tor what you ask.........
Scotland is not the issue here - lts your politicians. Write to them. Demand your own government. Demand your independance. By the way, where do you want us to send 92% of your end of Trident?
