You can find out exactly how much more gets spent per head in Scotland than in England by clicking the link below. The data shows comparisons between several different categories of spending. When you look carefully at the data below, it's clear to see that England always gets the short end of the stick. Despite many Scots claiming that Scotland would be better off out of the United Kingdom, it's clear to see that Scotland is actually being heavily subsidised by England – to the point where the average person in Scotland receives more in Government spending than the average person in England.
The real debate should not be whether Scotland needs independence, but whether England should continually be funding Scotland and losing out on public services simply to keep Scotland a float. Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Both the above threads lead to views which calculate oil revenues into Scotland's end of the taxation puzzle.
May I remind you that no one has yet sat down and talked about this. To take it as read that this revenue is rightfully Scotland's is arrogant in the extreme. This precious resource is British, developed under a British Government for the benefit of the British people, of whom the Scots are only a part. It may well end up in Scotland's pocket if our gutless politicians don't make a principled stand. In today's economic climate, to give away what is in effect free money, because someone decides "its ours and we want it" would be craven. The politician who presided over any such action which effectively robbed its people, would soon discover the error of their ways come election time. Thats my view, but there is a lot of talking to do yet. As an aside, what do you think should happen to the benefits of the Falkland Islands oil revenues as they come on stream. Whilst the majority of the cash will be going to the Falkland Islands (God bless 'em), an appreciable amount will be heading for HM treasury. This will be for the benefit of the United Kingdom and if you are no longer in the UK how can you expect to get any benefit from it? Write comment |
