Cameron Strangles Debate on EU

With David Cameron being threatened with a Tory rebellion over a proposed EU referendum, Mark Lancaster, English Democrats South Area Chairman, says democracy hangs in the balance like never before in history.

The people are for the very first time having their voice heard in the British Parliament and it is our unhealthy relationship with the European Union that has brought about this unprecedented acknowledgement that the opinions of the people actually count for something.

This move has been brought about by the People's Pledge and their online petition that raised well over 100,000 signatures in order to get the matter heard in a debate in the House of Commons.

The most interesting aspect of the events of the past few days is the way that the party leaders have truly been dragged out of their shells and their reaction to the debate and a possible.

To Nick Clegg; the man who promised a referendum before the last general election, the debate on the referendum he promised is an unnecessary distraction. What should be an even bigger distraction to his career are the opinions of his electorate in Sheffield. As the Eurozone drags all of our living standards down and the leaders of the Eurozone spend more time on personal tiffs1 than actually fixing the problem one has to ask; what are the chances of such an arch Europhile getting re-elected next time around? I am sure the people of Sheffield know the answer to that one!

David Cameron is another politician who was pro-referendum in opposition but now turns out to be a total Europhile in government. His 3 line whip on his MPs to vote against a referendum shows him in his true colours as an elected dictator and not a democrat who represents the views of those who elected him. The big question for Cameron must be; how long will he survive as leader of his party and prime minister is over 60 of his MPs are standing up to the bully boy tactics of the whips. Even if the call for a referendum is defeated a marker has been put down. Over 60 MPs in the Conservative party will have seen their careers stifled under Cameron by standing up to the 3 line whip. How many more will voting against their conscience? If the Conservatives have any ambition to form a majority government after the next general election then surely their point of view and their party leader will be Eurosceptic?

To confirm his contempt for the people and democracy he has switched the vote from Thursday, 27th October to Monday, 24th October in order to disrupt the mass lobby that had been planned for the former date.

Maybe once deposed Mr Cameron can fly by his true colours and his friend Nick will find him a safe Liberal Democrat seat? If such a thing exists after the Eurozone affects all our incomes and prospects.

Lastly we have Ed Milliband; put into leadership by the unions he must think he is impervious when he states publicly that anyone who wants to leave the European Union must be barking. Yes; barking!

What possesses a well-educated and experienced politician to utter such an outrageous slur is beyond me. I can only put it down to hubris. One thing I am certain about is that statement will come back again and again to haunt him and possibly hound him to the back benches. If the people of Doncaster have any sense they will send him to the Job Centre.

The point these leaders are missing is that Europe has the power to change the face of our politics even if it is just for one election. One election is all that is needed. For Cameron not to imagine that his Euro sceptics will not be plotting his downfall in the fullness of time is naïve in the extreme. What have they got to lose? Certainly not their seats as the polls show and increasing number of the public are waking up and demanding their own say on the European Union.

For 20 years the Labour Party was the most Euro sceptic of the 3 larger parties. Then, under New Labour they suddenly saw the light and became Europhiles. Not so all of Ed Milliband's union supporters. One organisation that spoke at the Peoples Pledge Rally in Westminster on Saturday, 22nd October was the RMT union. The RMT are a large union who can see the danger of EU interference in their own profession2. Many other union members are seeing the effects of cheap labour replacing them in their homeland and jobs being exported to the former Eastern Bloc nations with EU money. Over 20 Labour MPs will be voting against their own party's 3 line whip with many more voting against their conscience for now. Are all of these people barking? Oh dear, Mr Milliband; I believe you will have plenty of time to repent over that unguarded statement.

In the past Europhiles have painted the Euro Sceptics as a band of oddballs and taken a smug and high handed attitude over how they have dealt with anti EU feeling. Monday 24th October will be the last time they can demonstrate that contempt for the electorate. The vote may be lost; no matter. Another petition will gain its 100,000 signatures even quicker than the first. Those signed up to the People's Pledge will increase in number. The Euro Zone will expose the inadequacies of the European Commission and the leaders of the leaders of the EU project. Euro Sceptics will become the mainstream.

The majority of voters in all our 4 nations are Euro Sceptic. With a united cross party campaign such as I witnessed in the People's Pledge Rally it will be Europhiles who are the oddballs.

Europe will dominate the next general election and all the interim local elections like never before. If the current big 3 leaders remain in office with front benches made up of Europhiles then we may see the most interesting voting patterns ever. People will start to vote for the most obvious euro sceptic as party differences will pale into insignificance.

The referendum ball is rolling. Right now it is a snowball that is growing in size. By the time of the next election it will be an avalanche!

In the meantime I call on all English Democrats to sign the People's Pledge and start a campaign of e-mails to your local MP.

These are interesting times. Play your part, get involved and one day you will be able to say, "I was there, I was part of it."

when this petition fails , as it will , another petition needs to be started.
make it so there is a forced debate every week with the governments own system .
I know it wont work as they are all in bed with the EU , but it will open the electorates eyes to the fact that the 3 main parties dont represent the will of the people

The British people don't want a referendum on a referendum. We want - and in a democracy should be given - the right to vote on our future. That isn't going to, and, never will happen. There are far too many rich pickings to be had for our traitorous politicians to ever allow the electorate to have their say. Especially when they know what the answer would be.
